Palermo-Montecarlo

18-23 August 2010

A new record set (2 days, 52 minutes and 21 seconds), some tight finishes, 26 challengers including three maxi yachts over 30 metres, and an even playing field at the top combined to ensure a memorable 6th edition of the Palermo-Montecarlo, organised by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia, in collaboration with the Yacht Club de Monaco. The two winners received a Hublot watch at the prize-giving on Monday 23rd August at the Yacht Club de Monaco, confirming the close links to Yachting of the prestigious Swiss watchmaker and official YCM timekeeper. Hublot was again proud to be associated with this offshore race between Palermo and Monaco, which has established itself as a key stage in the “Trofeo d’Altura del Mediterraneo”, alongside famous regattas like the “Trofeo Pirelli-Coppa Carlo Negri”, the “Settimana dei tre Golfi”, the “Giraglia Rolex Cup” and the Rolex Middle Sea Race”.  Click here to read the final press release...

The Monegasque Armada takes the start!

There were 26 boats, having in 2009 attracted 19 contestants, taking the start with no less than seven yachts flying the Yacht Club de Monaco’s flag and defending the Club’s honour. Putanesca (J. Warren), Bon Gars (M. Peregrini), Williwaw (B. Medecin), Esimit Europa (I. Simcic), First 50 (F. Carbone), First 45 (Bruno Canino) and Salona 42 (D. Desprat) represent a veritable Monegasque Armada.

Esimit Europa 2 breaks the record!
Friday 20th August 2010: at 13.00 hours 2 minutes and 21 seconds the maxi Esimit Europa 2 crossed the line of the VIth edition of the Palermo-Montecarlo, having set a new record of 2 days 52 minutes and 21 seconds, beating by over three hours the record established in 2008 by Senso One (ex-Maricha IV). It was a record we thought could never be beaten (the last was 2 days 4 hours 11 minutes and 48 seconds). Selected by Slocenia-born Igor Simcic, the crew of the 30 metre maxi (ex-Alfa Romeo) comprised numerous America's Cup regulars, including Italian Flavio Favini as the skipper, Alberto Bolzan at the helm and Tiziano Nava on tactics.
