In the heart of the Indian Ocean…
Le %s
The oceanographic schooner Tara has been for the last week continuing her worldwide ocean route. The great stopover between Muscat (Sultanate of Oman) and Mumbai (Bombay capital of the Maharashtra) will be the longest one, by two weeks, achieved by the crew since they left Lorient last September. The yacht has filled up with men (and women), scientists, as well as journalists and technical hardware in the Sultanate of Oman. They are heading now towards the heart of the Indian Ocean with progress largely dependent on the amount of sampling and scientific observations routine, stopping over and over in high seas in order to deploy all the technical machinery and register information. One sampling procedure takes longer, the “rosette” being dunk few hundred meters deep allows to gather over 200 samples to be input and saved. Alain Giese, having joined the Tara Oceans mission, is enjoying the adventure as it progresses and makes the most of his long term nautical experience. Looking after the great schooner takes most of his time. Kind and caring by nature, Alain is doing his best to make sure that all the crew members are at ease whilst he is educating himself on the secrets of the scientific nautical world being surrounded by such knowledgeable persons.
