Alain Giese and the oceanographic schooner Tara have since Friday been moored in the Marina of nearby Muscat, the Oman Sultanate capital city. The harsh navigation conditions, since leaving Abu Dhabi, have seen a height in the Strait of Ormuz. The scientific sampling of the area has started again by the research team.

Alain has been able to witness on three occasions the “rosette” being launched by 300 and 2,000 metre deep. This Oceanographic instrument than can take samples of water at different depths is commonly known as a CTD (Conductivity-Temperature-Depth); a very difficult operation done in this area of high petrol tankers traffic in the Arab and Persian Gulf. Alain Giese is very busy lowering the sails of this great yacht and quite relieved to reach by the weekend the astonishing Muscat harbour. “It seems like a city out of the oriental tales” he admits “A city where one can still feel the ancient Portuguese colonial spirits of the 15th century, all made of contrast, Zanzibar, the spices route… So many images that fill my imagination and feed my curiosity…”. With very little time spared for day dreaming as another research team has come onboard and Alain, under the leadership of his Captain Hervé, maintains order, discipline and most importantly good working order of the schooner under any circumstances. “All the scientific engineers are very nice and easy to talk to” adds Alain “we are becoming friends and I feel like I am learning so much by being in contact with them. Tara is leading a real observation mission by listing information on the biodiversity of the ecosystem. Each and everyone onboard is taking their work to heart and it makes me happy, from my modest level to contribute to a job which allows me to preserve our sea and her oceans where I have spent most of my life…”.
