Date: Thursday 28th March 2019 / 9.00am – 4.30pm
Venue: Yacht Club de Monaco / Meeting Room & Aquarama

The 3rd Monaco Ocean Week (MOW) takes place in the Principality from Saturday 24th to Saturday 30th March 2019. Starting this year, the day dedicated to the Yacht Club de Monaco at this event will always be on a Thursday and will focus on the same theme:

Yachting: A Laboratory for the Future / A Vehicle for Preserving the Ocean

The day will end with the YCM Explorer Awards by the Yacht Club de Monaco La Belle Classe Explorer at a private dinner for owners: OWNERS’ DINNER.

 It is an opportunity to benefit from the extensive network of YCM owner-members in La Belle Classe Superyachts and La Belle Classe Explorer (launched 2018), and the CAPTAINS’ CLUB for superyacht captains. The goal is to develop the Environmental Symposium in partnership with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Association OceanoScientific, RAMOGE and the Cluster Yachting Monaco – all interested parties of the Sustainable Yachting Network – who actively participate in the organisation of this event.  The fundamental aims are to:

       –    Report back/gather information on innovations and their effectiveness;

       –    Exchange/discuss ongoing developments and future trends;

       –    Raise awareness of owners & captains of the need to protect the Ocean and its biodiversity;

       –    Propose/decide on virtuous practices inscribed in the YCM’s L’Art de Vivre la Mer;

       –    Undertake to comply with these virtuous practices to “Sail Clean, Sail Better”.

At every Environmental Symposium recurrent themes relating to the above actions will be discussed, focusing on innovations that are being implemented and the environmental approach relating to:

– Routine maintenance in harbour and at sea: Protection, Maintenance & Management of General Waste & Emissions

– Sustainable ports of call, moorings & anchorages

– New energy sources for propulsion: Sail, Electricity & Hydrogen

– New destinations: Respect & Preservation of Shipping & Coastal Areas

Preservation of the Ocean will be at the centre of all debates: behaviour at sea and ashore; products and services for superyachts “to sail clean”: maintenance (hull, deck, interior, engine room, pipes, etc.); protection (new generation antifouling methods); maintenance (general waste and waste water); exhaust and air conditioning gases; cold chain management; etc.

Proposals by speakers will serve to enhance the Blue Charter of good environmental practices, an initiative by members of the CAPTAINS’ CLUB. This will be done in collaboration with the Sustainable Yachting Network. The goal is for this Blue Charter to be distributed and promoted at the next Monaco Yacht Show (25-28 September 2019).

The 9th Environmental Symposium will be held in the Meeting Room (quay level) at the YCM in the form of a TV talk show hosted by two TV journalists. Discussions will be in French and English with simultaneous translation.
