organised by the Ferretti Group in collaboration with the Yacht Club de Monaco

  • An exclusive Duran Duran concert, organised by the Ferretti Group in collaboration with the Yacht Club de Monaco, marked the start of the Ferretti Group’s Private Preview Event for the 2017 season.

  • The unique concert on the water was an opportunity for Ferretti Group boat owners in Monaco to visit the Group’s entire fleet moored in the YCM Marina, six of which were being previewed.

  • The event heralded the start of major Luxury Yachting events on the French Riviera, with the Cannes Yachting Festival (12-17 September) and, the highlight, the Monaco Yacht Show (27-30 September) which brings together the world’s largest superyachts in one harbour.

After the success of Blue Wonderful with Elton John, the Ferretti Group and Yacht Club de Monaco joined forces again to repeat the experience on Friday 8th September 2017 with another glamourous evening with concert, this time by British group Duran Duran. Called Extraordinary World, a reference to one of the band’s most famous titles Ordinary World, the show was in the image of the Ferretti Group’s ability to design and build yachts that defy the ordinary.

Band members arrived by boat to take their places on a stage built specially for the occasion on the water, facing the Yacht Club. Their arrival was greeted by the Ferretti Group’s fleet of 27 yachts moored in the YCM Marina, providing an idyllic backdrop for this one-off concert.

With sales exceeding 80 million albums to their names, the artists performed a string of hits, including The Wild Boys, Notorious, Save a Prayer, Rio, A View to a Kill and The Reflex, the single released in May 1983 which propelled them to the pinnacle of the world’s charts. The energy put into the concert was only matched by the talent of the British musicians. They achieved such success during their career they were even referred to as the “Fab Five”, a reference to the “Fab Four” Beatles. Singer Simon Le Bon is also a big fan of the sea and yachting in general, having taken the start of the Whitbread (now called the Volvo Ocean Race) in 1985 on Drum.

“I’ve followed Duran Duran’s career from the start and always loved their songs and ability to change and experiment without ever losing their identity or inspiration,” explained Alberto Galassi, Ferretti Group CEO. “Duran Duran agreed to play for our yacht owners and Yacht Club de Monaco members. They are extraordinary, and like our yachts have style, personality and a constant ability to innovate. That’s what sets them apart from the others. It’s not by chance that they have come through different musical eras while staying at the top. Thanks to their music and the presence of so many guests, this Ferretti Group Private Preview Event is without a doubt a landmark,” he concluded.

The eighties phenomenon played for nearly an hour, much to the delight of 1,000 guests on the YCM’s various terraces. Naturally, the four musicians left the stage by boat, bringing an extraordinary show to a fitting close.

The Yacht Club de Monaco’s General Secretary, Bernard d’Alessandri was particularly delighted with the evening “We are very pleased to repeat our collaboration with the Ferretti Group in organising this superb concert. Our wish is to provide unforgettable moments like this evening. The Yacht Club de Monaco and the Principality are a fantastic showcase for international yachting and top quality events.

For Ferretti Group boat owners, the concert was an ideal opportunity to visit and test the Group’s six new additions through to Saturday afternoon: Ferretti Yachts 780, Ferretti Yachts 920, Pershing 9X, the flybridge yacht Riva 100 ‘Corsaro, the Rivale 56’ and the Navetta 33. The initiative was complemented by a test drive organised by Maserati and reserved for YCM members keen to try out one of the luxury cars of the famous Trident brand.

The evening was also a fitting prelude to the 13th Monaco Classic Week – La Belle Classe (13-17 September), a unique gathering dedicated to a certain Art de Vivre la Mer, sharing a passion for yachting between tradition and modernity.
