It’s down to the wire

A full programme today for both the Monaco Optimist Team Race, organised with the support of FxPro, Eventica and Fon, and Act 3 of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series, as a steady south-westerly filled in to welcome the 64 Optimists in Port Hercule and 34 J/70s out on a big sea in the Bay of Monaco.

With more than a hundred contestants on the water other boats and spectators turned out to admire the spectacle, which also saw kite-surfer Maxime Nocher, Valentin Zavadnikov on a Melges 20 and Denis Lankin on a Melges 14 taking full advantage of optimal conditions to train.

This evening, while the foreign teams who are here in force may be topping the rankings in both the Optimist and J/70 events this evening, the Monegasques are putting up a fight in both classes, determined to wrest control at home.

After six races there is everything to play for among the top three: Oscar Lundqvist’s Swedish team (Fanny), Claas Lehmann’s German team (Tre Makreller) and the Monegasque team led by Stefano Roberti (Piccinina) who made a superb come back in the overall provisional ranking winning two of today’s three races.

Battle commences tomorrow for both classes at 11.00am.
