For the third weekend of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series, 50 boats divided into the J/70 and Melges 20 one-design classes descended on Monaco to compete in this regatta organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco between October and March, with the Beluga Cup up for grabs this weekend.
December on the Côte d’Azur lived up to its reputation for mild conditions, with a 7 to 10 knot south-westerly enabling the Race Committee to launch three races for the J/70s and four for the Melges 20s on two separate courses.
In the Yacht Club de Monaco’s flagship J/70 class, that drew 29 entrants of which 17 were Monegasque, the Swedes on Rocad Racing were the most consistent taking first prize, although equal on points with Libeccio, helmed by Max Bulley and his team of YCM members. The Germans from Breze completed the podium.
In the Melges 20, Monaco’s Guido Miani (Out of Reach), 2014-2015 champion who was absent for the first Act as he was competing in San Francisco where he was first European in the rankings, is already well placed to retain his title. With two race wins he won Act 3 ahead of a Russian armada, three points clear of Alexandr Ezhkov (Pirogovo) and five ahead of Oleg Evdokimenko (Kotyara).
Next rendezvous: 21st December 2015 for the YCM Awards – Trophée Credit Suisse rewarding Yacht Club de Monaco members’ best results of the 2015 race season.
