Monaco Optimist Academy

In total 151 young sailors turned out to take part in the 3rd Monaco Optimist Academy Coach Regatta, with six nations represented – Ukraine, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Italy, France and Monaco.

Due to particularly poor conditions (a Mediterranean “episode”) and bad weather alert for the region, the competition on the water had to be cancelled.

Conditions were particularly difficult with 3-5m high waves in the bay of Monaco, and a 7.8m wave being registered on Saturday evening around 5.30pm on the main harbour wall.

A big thank you to all the staff in the YCM Sports Section and the Flotte des Commissaires’ volunteers and their Commandant for welcoming and accommodating some of the young sailors in their homes, and supervising to help them make the most of the weekend. Video games, fitness sessions, lessons on race regulations, a film on sailing in rough weather and a Tombola & Pasta Party were enjoyed by one and all.

Note that next year, registration will be free to all those who signed up for the 2019 edition.
