The battle was on for the 64 young sailors competing in the Monaco Optimist Team Race, organised for the ninth year in a row by the Yacht Club de Monaco.

The pace picked up on this second day with no less than 49 races run in Port Hercule. The young Swedish team from KSSS maintain a narrow lead of one point in the provisional ranking. And there’s been no let-up on pressure at the back with neck and neck encounters between nations. The Monegasques once again proved their skills in this discipline by winning nearly all their matches. This evening they lie second equal on points with the Russians and last year’s winners, the Finns from Helsingfors Segelklubb HSK.

The 16 teams will be out again on the water tomorrow Saturday 13th January from 9.00am for the final day.
