Monaco Optimist Team Race

12-15 janvier 2017

There was a big crowd on Quai Louis II for the first day of the Monaco Optimist Team Race, organised with the support of FxPro, Eventica, Fon and clothing supplier SLAM.

This original match-race regatta has attracted 64 under 14s for the seventh year in a row, with a veritable forest of Optimists, the cute single-handed one-design dinghy, invading the Yacht Club de Monaco and surrounds.

Swedes, Finns, Danes, Croats, Italians, Monegasques… in total 16 top-level teams divided into two competed in the 21 races held today. The team from the Royal Danish Yacht Club lead the provisional overall ranking, as do the Germans from the Bodensee Yacht Club Ueberlingen in their group. The Monegasques led by Andrea Tortella, Logan Viciana, Luca Frederiksen and Mathieu Choquet are currently lying 6th.

It all begins again for the Optimists tomorrow at 10.00am, with the Melges 20, J/70 and M32 fleets joining the fray at 12 noon for the start of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series regatta!
