Forty-plus teams were in full flight this Friday, as Act II of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series kicked off. Like the 2017/2018 season-opener, the Melges 20 and J/70 fleets are doing the honours this weekend.

Heavyweights on the water

The first day saw three races completed in a light to medium breeze. Unlike the first Act which was dominated by the Russian teams, the presence of big guns on the Monaco race area saw the pack reshuffled. Aboard the J/70 Mascalzone Latino led by Vincenzo Onorato, British sailor Paul Goodison, gold medallist at the Beijing Olympics and three-time Laser World Champion, were among the strong teams on the water. This evening they lead the fleet of 27, followed by the Russians on Art Tube, winners of Act 1, with Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio (G-Spottino) from the YCM in 3rd place.

In the Melges 20s, Leonid Altukhov (Pirogovo) tops the provisional ranking ahead of Valentin Zavadnikov (Synergy), the man who initiated the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series.

Racing starts again tomorrow Saturday 11th November at 11.00am.
