6th Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series
Act I : 8-11 Novembre (J/70, Melges 20, Smeralda 888)

They arrived on mass to participate in Act 1 of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series, with some 40 boats in three classes (Melges 20, Smeralda 888, J/70), organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco in collaboration with technical clothing supplier SLAM from October to April. For the first meeting of the 2018-2019 season, the Principality served up some beautiful conditions allowing six races in three days.

J/70: return of Ludovico Fassitelli

He came back to win! YCM member and winner of the previous Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series on a Melges 20, Ludovico Fassitelli returns this season aboard his first love, the J/70 Junda. A decision crowned with success for the Italian sailor who pocketed two race wins, ahead of Russian Mikhail Nechvolodov (Jeannette) and another Monegasque boat, Cesare Gabasio’s TinnJ70. It was an excellent result for Monaco J/70 Class President, Michel Boussard, delighted to see his troops out in force preparing for the World Championship for this class to be held here in Monaco in 2021.

Conditions proved tricky for newcomers discovering the particularities of the Monaco race area for the first time. In the Corinthians, two Swiss teams bagged the top two steps of the podium, led by Bruno Zeltner’s crew (Quater2eleven), the most consistent with a win and four 2nd places, ahead of Emanuel Muller (Attaque).

In the Melges 20, the class that launched the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series in 2013, thanks to Valentin Zavadnikov, Leonid Altukhov (Pirogovo) who is used to taking the lead clinched 1st place by winning three of the races, ahead of compatriot Alexander Mikhaylik (Alex Team) and Yuri Makhshin (Synergy).

In the Smeralda 888, the youngsters on Black Star led by Nicolo Stimamiglio, pocketed their first victory of the season ahead of Valter Pizzoli’s Ange Transparent, also making his return and affirming his determination to make it to the top of the leader board.
