37th Copa del Rey – Palma de Mallorca – Spain

28 July-4 August

Interest remains high in the Copa del Rey, a top-level international meeting which for the 37th edition attracted 152 boats from 29 nations, including Monaco. In the ClubSwan 50 class, the YCM’s Leonardo Ferragamo (Cuordileone) and Vladimir Liubomirov (Bronenosec Gazprom) were out on the water, two big names in sailing who narrowly missed out on a podium with Cuordileone in 4th but equal on points with 3rd, and Bronenosec Gazprom close behind in 5th.

In the GC32 latest generation foiling boats, the level is so high there is no room for error. Won by the British four-time Olympic medallist Sir Ben Ainslie, races demanded total concentration from all contestants. Esteban Garcia’s Realteam put in a good performance to finish 5th. In the Melges 40 class competing in their third and penultimate stage on the circuit, Valentin Zavadnikov (Dynamiq-Synergy Sailing Team) came 4th followed by Federico Michetti (Inga from Sweden) in 5th.
