Optimist – Nieuwpoort – Belgium

28 June-5 July

A steady breeze, some swell and a current were all on the menu at this Nieuwpoort Sailing Week on the North Sea coast. Both the weather conditions and the regatta demanded total concentration and physical endurance on the part of those competing. It was not enough to chill the Yacht Club de Monaco’s Optimist team led by Lucas Frederiksen who drew on all his experience to keep up the pace from start to finish. A challenge he met head on to come 9th overall with a win and a 3rd place in two of the races, an inspiration to his fellow members like Bodhi Van Der Linden, 36th, who can be proud of finishing in the Gold round. At the back, other members of the Monegasque team did not let up with Mathis Duplomb finishing 16th in the Silver ahead of Matteo Asscher (22nd), Joachim De Tayrac (51st) and Lucas Didier (54th).
